Gilligans Backpacker Resort is "the Ritz of all hostels" as described by Lonely Planet. Gilligans provides an excellent standard of accommodation, ideal for every type of traveller. Set in lush, tropical, landscaped gardens.
The Adventurous by Nature Package includes accommodation in an 8 bed dorm room, however it is possible to upgrade to a double en-suite rooms or downgrade to a larger dorm share. All rooms are contemporary, air-conditioned and have private balconies. Gilligans is located above the famous Rusty's Markets on Grafton St, surrounded by groovy shops, cafe's and within easy walking distance to the famous Cairns Swimming Lagoon precinct and the Marlin Marina where all boats depart to the Great Barrier Reef and Islands daily. The airport is a 10 minute drive from here.

Gilligan's beer garden has regular live bands and the latest sport and music vision on a giant 10m x 6m video screen. There is a mezzanine bar on the upper level of the complex and a bottle shop open to the public and guests seven days a week as well as a cafe, dining hall and restaurant catering to the local and in-house guests.
This property was built with backpackers in mind and exceeds expectations in this market. Gilligans offers a 24-hour reception and a total of 120 very large air-conditioned rooms, most with huge balconies. There is a secure Vingcard room access system. Each room has its own bathroom that can be used three ways (doors separating the toilet, shower and sink, irrespective of whether the room has a 6, 4, twin or double capacity). The Hotel rooms have one King bed and the Twin Hotel rooms have 2 single beds.
Gilligans is home to the iconic Rusty's Markets that provide a vast array of exotic tropical fruit and vegetables, herbs and spices as well as plants, arts, crafts, gifts and souvenirs supplied by local farmers and artists. The markets run from Friday through to Sunday.
The latest addition to the property is a large BBQ area. Guests can purchase steak/fish from the kitchen and grill it to their liking, a salad bar completes the fresh and easy dinner!

Day Two: Tully River Rafting
Your second day is spent tackling the Tully River. Voted No#1 rafting tour, it provides more than enough excitement to satisfy your thirst for adventure! Departing daily, travelling to the upper gorge of the Tully river in our air-conditioned, video equipped coach. The rescue 3 trained guides will offer you all tuition needed to enjoy your 5 hours of white water rafting.

Day Three: Bungy & Skydive
The next day you will jump out of a plane and jump off a 44 metre bungy tower all in one day!! A.J Hackett bungy provides the ultimate bungy experience in the worlds most natural playground situated 15 kms north of Cairns. Set in 100 acres and bordering world heritage rainforest this purpose built 50 metre tower spans a natural lake and showcases magnificent views.
As well as experiencing the challenge of the 'CLASSIC BUNGY' jump, there is now also a platform above the normal Jump Deck which has a Waterslide, High Divers Springboard and Ramps that welcome any toy with wheels. Mountain Bike jumps seem to be the most popular!!
The higher platform has expanded the Jump Menu to 16 which now includes such jumps as the Fruitbat, Clingon, Cliffhanger, Haggis, Pendulum, Tandem and Elevator to name a few....

Josephine Falls:
From here journey further south to Josephine Falls - a picturesque waterfall fed by rains falling on Queensland’s highest mountain, Bartle Frere, which looms above this popular picnic area. A track will lead you through lush tropical rainforest, to viewing decks overlooking the Josephine Creek and Falls, where there are excellent photographic opportunities. Below the falls are several swimming holes surrounded by boulders and a popular water slide down a smooth sloping rock face between pools. Remember to bring your swimmers for a very refreshing swim!
Palmerstone Highway:
Starting at Innisfail, the Palmerston Highway stretches through Wet Tropics rainforests of Johnstone River Valley to Millaa Millaa and the spectacular Millaa Millaa falls. Although this is the longest route from Cairns to the Atherton Tablelands, many people believe it is the most scenic drive. The Atherton Tablelands is home to World Heritage listed rainforests, national parks, mountains, rivers, lakes and waterfalls. It is also rated as one of the richest agricultural plains in Australia. This is Australian countryside at its very best, and a visit to Gallo Dairyland is not to be missed!
Gallo's Chocolate and Cheese Factory:
With European cheese makers developing new and unusual cheeses, alongside the old favourites, your visit to Gallo Dairyland will be fascinating and very tasty. Then of course there is the chocolate, which really needs little introduction...
After indulging on cheese and chocolate and lunch at Malanda Pub (own expense) its time for more beautiful waterfalls.
Millaa Millaa Falls:
Millaa Millaa Falls is a magnificent waterfalls surrounded by lush rainforest. The falls cascade perfectly to a pristine waterhole below where you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool water. It is one of the most photographed in all of Australia, so make sure you bring your camera!
Lake Eacham:
Following this will be a visit to Lake Eacham which is an extinct volcanic crater lake filled with cool, clean, crystal clear water, surrounded by 1200acres of lush tropical highland rainforest. The peacefulness and tranquillity of Lake Eacham is an amazing wonder. Saw-shelled turtles are commonly seen in Lake Eacham, paddling over to visitors when they appear.
